Brazil Santos

Santos is a popular Arabica variety from Brazil — the country that produces more coffee than any other in the world. It is a bestseller at our roastery and one of the best-selling “premium” coffees worldwide.

These are beans you can always rely on — every barista in the world knows them. It has a classic, mellow flavour with distinct nutty and chocolate notes, typical of many coffees from South and Central America, familiar from visits to all kinds of cafés, from big chains to small craft coffee shops.

It is perfect for espresso and espresso-based drinks such as latte or cappuccino — which is how it is most often enjoyed — but it also works very well as a large, classic black coffee, including when brewed in a moka pot.

If you brew it as a filter coffee, you can expect notes of nuts, sweetness, chocolate, and a relatively pleasant bitterness. We would not recommend it to those who prefer bright, fruity, high-acidity coffees.

Brazil Santos Coffee – a great Arabica for every occasion

Coffees from Brazil

Brazil is a true coffee universe. The sheer variety of plantations found here — from tiny artisanal farms covering just a few hectares to vast industrial estates spanning tens of thousands of hectares — means that Brazil offers almost the full spectrum of possible coffee varieties and quality levels.

Coffee cultivation in Brazil dates back to the 18th century, when the first coffee beans and seedlings arrived there from Africa, partly by chance. For a long time, coffee in Brazil was grown solely for domestic use, but in the second half of the 19th century, booming demand in the United States and Europe triggered a true explosion in plantation growth. For many years, Brazil accounted for nearly 80% of the world’s coffee harvest.

Today, it still holds first place, supplying around 30% of the global coffee bean market.

The origin of Brazil Santos coffee

Our beans come from many plantations located around the ocean port of Santos, in the São Paulo region — the hub responsible for most of Brazil’s coffee exports.

Brazil Santos is an excellent representative of high-quality Brazilian beans, bringing together all the characteristics that make coffees from Brazil true classics. It is intense, dominated by notes of nuts and chocolate, highlighted by a sweet caramel note and minimal acidity.

The beans in our Santos are naturally processed, also known as dry processed — the coffee cherries are spread out on large raised drying tables in the sun (so-called African beds), where the outer layers slowly dry around the fruit, allowing the seeds inside — the coffee beans — to be released.

Below, we present real photos of our Santos coffee, taken at our roastery. The first photo shows the raw green beans, just before roasting. The second photo shows the freshly roasted coffee at its default roast level — the one we recommend. We roast Brazil Santos to a Vienna profile by default, and that is the roast level shown in the photo below.
